Senate Republicans Head Home Without Providing Critical Aid for Hardworking Americans During Coronavirus Outbreak

Statement from DSCC spokesperson Helen Kalla on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s decision to allow Senators to go home for the weekend without providing emergency assistance for hardworking Americans affected by the coronavirus outbreak:

“It’s irresponsible for Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans to express their opposition to legislation to provide critical relief for hardworking Americans — like free coronavirus testing, paid sick leave, and nutrition assistance — and then leave town for the weekend without passing an emergency aid package. As families across the country confront challenges like missing work, school closures, and paying medical expenses, there is no excuse for Senate Republicans to leave town without passing measures to ensure basic protections for America’s hardworking families and those who are disproportionately affected by the coronavirus outbreak.”
