WHAT SENATOR COLLINS SAID THEN: Senator Susan Collins voted to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court on the basis that she was assured he’d respect precendent and protect abortion rights and has since defended her vote even when Kavanaugh has written anti-choice opinions on the Court.
“I do not believe that Brett Kavanaugh will overturn Roe v. Wade.” — Senator Collins, CNN, October 7, 2018
WHAT HAPPENED TODAY: Justice Kavanaugh ignored precedent and voted against the majority opinion to overturn Louisiana’s restrictive anti-choice law.
“With every anti-choice opinion from Justice Kavanaugh, Senator Collins’ excuses for confirming him to the Supreme Court look worse and worse,” said DSCC spokesperson Helen Kalla. “There’s a reason Planned Parenthood and NARAL no longer support her and have instead endorsed Sara Gideon: Mainers cannot trust Senator Collins to defend reproductive health care rights anymore.”
