Summer of Chaos: 3 New Reports Highlight GOP Infighting in PA, NC & OH

Three new stories this week are highlighting how GOP primaries are continuing to escalate and intensify in key battleground states across the map:

  • In Pennsylvania, new reporting from The Pittsburgh City Paper details how Bartos and Parnell “have already traded barbs over each other’s past support for Trump adversaries, and those attacks continue after Pittsburgh City Paper discovered that Bartos gave money to Democrats in the past, and he praised Hillary Clinton in 2014.”
  • In Ohio, The Sandusky Register is reporting that the GOP Senate primary “could get even more mean” ahead of Trump’s Cleveland rally on Saturday. The crowded field is already “fawning for his attention and fighting for his endorsement.” Jane Timken even “appeared to be claiming she already has Trump’s endorsement in the race” –– angering the former president and his team.
  • In North Carolina, POLITICO detailed how “Trump’s surprise intervention” in the “nasty N.C. Senate primary” is causing drama, “creating sore feelings among his party’s candidates and causing dissension among North Carolina Republicans.” And The Washington Examiner reported on the disagreement between outgoing Senator Burr and Trump that led to Burr “back[ing a] different successor than Trump’s pick.”

The reports are just the latest to document how Trump is escalating Republican Senate primaries and forcing GOP Senate candidates to face a long summer of chaos.
