In an exclusive interview with The Federalist today, former President Donald Trump escalated his feud with Mitch McConnell, once again attacking the Minority Leader –– saying that he “has proven to be a disaster” and “called for Senate Republicans to fire Mitch McConnell and elect a new leader.”
Trump’s full quote: “I think Mitch McConnell has proven to be a disaster. He’s not good for the Republican Party as a leader, and I wish I wouldn’t have endorsed him. The Senate has to make a change at some point. I don’t think it’s acceptable having him as a leader.”
In response, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesperson Jazmin Vargas released the following statement: “We look forward to hearing if Republican incumbents and Senate candidates agree with Trump’s assessment that McConnell has been a ‘disaster’ –– he took the words right out of our mouth.”
Over a long Summer of Chaos, Trump has continuously escalated Republican Senate primaries: pitting candidates against each other and raising fears from the GOP that his actions will inflict “midterm damage.”
