WATCH: DSCC Chair Sen. Gary Peters Joins Morning Joe To Discuss Senate Stakes – “We Have A Very Clear Contrast In The Election”

This morning, DSCC Chair Senator Gary Peters joined MSNBC’s Morning Joe to discuss the stakes of Senate campaigns, highlighting how voters will “have a very clear contrast in the election” between Senate Democrats who are fighting “to help Americans with the struggles that they have in everyday life,” and GOP Senate candidates who have embraced “incredibly extreme positions that I think will be soundly rejected by the American people.”

Watch for yourself:

Joe Scarborough:

  • What’s at stake in this election, given the fact you’ve got the head of the Republican Senate committee saying he wants to abolish Social Security and Medicare, he wants to raise taxes on working class Americans, and he wants little girls who get raped by members of their family to be forced to have the rapist’s baby?

Sen. Peters:

  • Well, that’s what’s at stake, those clear contrasts. They’re out of touch with where the majority of the American people are. And elections do matter. We’ve seen that, which is why it’s so critical that we hold the majority in the Senate. And quite frankly, because of this contrast between these candidates who are as extreme as you are outlining right now, is why I think we actually can pick up seats. We’re working to have hopefully 52 Democratic senators, but we’ve got to get everybody engaged. Even with these extreme positions, a lot of the races that we’re running in are in states that are tough. So these are going to be close races.
  • We have a very clear contrast in the election. Voters are going to go in the fall and know that there is a choice between people who are trying to make the world a better place and to help Americans with the struggles that they have in everyday life, and Republicans who are basically not willing to do that, and, as you mentioned, take away fundamental rights from women when it comes to reproductive freedom with incredibly extreme positions that I think will be soundly rejected by the American people.”
