WATCH: New Report Highlights Influx Of “Carpetbaggers” In GOP Senate Primaries

Voters: “I Think He’s A Carpetbagger,” “Why Is He Running…?”

A new CNN TV segment spotlights the growing number of out-of-state candidates running in GOP Senate primaries, featuring the voices of voters rejecting these “carpetbaggers” and telling them to go back to their home state.

WATCH:

  • CNN’s Eva McKend: All politics is local, but some candidates are putting that principle to the test by crossing state lines in search of elected office. Take Pennsylvania, where the Senate Republican primary field is shaping up to include several candidates with loose ties to the Keystone State, including… Mehmet Oz, a longtime resident of New Jersey.
  • Jane Turkel, Pennsylvania voter: I think he’s a carpetbagger. He’s from New Jersey. He should run in New Jersey.
  • Barbara McNutt, Pennsylvania voter: If he’s from New Jersey, why is he running in Pennsylvania?
  • McKend: But it’s not just Oz facing residency questions in the Pennsylvania GOP primary. There’s Carla Sands… who recently lived in California. And businessman David McCormick… has lived in Connecticut for years.
  • RepublicanGene DiGirolamo, Bucks County Commissioner: I am really wondering if… the residency issue [is] going to be a bigger problem than they anticipate.
