Arizona Senator Publicly Admits He & 46 Other Republicans Sabotaged Iran Negotiations Because Snow Was In The Forecast
Arizona Republic: “McCain of all people should know better” than to “stomp on the constitution”
There are days when it seems that the Republican Senate is actually trying to help Democrats take back the majority in 2016. By now, we’ve all seen Tom Cotton’s dangerously irresponsible Iran letter and the 47 Republican Senators who signed onto it, but yesterday Senator John McCain filled us in on why exactly so many Republicans were keen on signing it.
Snow.
From Politico:
Some Republican senators admitted Wednesday they were caught off guard by the backlash to a letter warning Iranian leaders against a nuclear agreement with President Barack Obama. And Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said Republicans — many of whom blessed the missive during a brisk signing session at a Senate lunch a week ago, as senators prepared to flee a Washington snowstorm — should have given it closer consideration. “It was kind of a very rapid process. Everybody was looking forward to getting out of town because of the snowstorm,” McCain said. “I think we probably should have had more discussion about it, given the blowback that there is.”
Not surprisingly, the Arizona Republic doesn’t share Senator McCain’s newfound fear of snow, arguing that “McCain of all people should know better” than to “stomp on the constitution.” Even McCain’s fellow home-state Republican Senator Jeff Flake called the letter “not appropriate.”
Before you undermine national security again Senator McCain, today’s forecast seems just fine.
“Perhaps Weather Vane McCain should only be a Senator during the spring and summer months if he’s going to do something as dangerous and reckless as cozying up to Iran anytime he thinks he might need a winter coat. This is a truly shocking and unacceptable explanation from someone who was once his party’s Presidential nominee,” said Justin Barasky, DSCC Communications Director. “If we are to seriously believe that John McCain irresponsibly played politics with national security and willfully sabotaged America’s efforts to stop Iran from having nuclear capabilities because he was worried about a snowstorm then perhaps it’s time for him to retire.”
