What They’re Saying: DSCC Warns GOP “Will Light Women’s Rights On Fire”

News coverage is highlighting the DSCC’s new ad – “On Fire” –  which “warns that a Republican-controlled Senate would work to ban abortions nationwide and limit access to birth control” and “ends with a call to vote” to protect and expand our Democratic Senate majority.

See for yourself:

HuffPost: ‘On Fire’: Senate Democrats Release First Ad After Supreme Court Leak

  • The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is out with its first ad after the leak of a likely Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade.
  • The 30-second long ad, backed by an initial five-figure ad buy, suggests a Republican Senate majority would pass a strict national ban on abortion.
  • “If Senate Republicans win in November, they will light women’s rights on fire,” a female narrator says as burning matches appear on screen. “They will make abortion illegal everywhere. Punishing women, even in cases of rape, incest, or to save a mother’s life. And they’re coming after birth control.”
  • The ad ends with a call to vote and urges viewers to sign up for text messages from the DSCC, which serves as Senate Democrats’ campaign arm.
  • The ad buy includes a takeover of the MSNBC home page.

The Hill: Senate Democratic campaign arm launches first ad responding to draft Supreme Court abortion ruling

  • The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) is out with its first ad responding to the Supreme Court’s leaked draft decision overturning Roe v. Wade.
  • The 30-second digital spot warns that a Republican-controlled Senate would work to ban abortions nationwide and limit access to birth control.
  • It’s the latest effort by Democrats to make the fate of abortion rights a central theme of the 2022 midterm elections.
  • The draft ruling, which was leaked to Politico, has set off a fury among many Americans who fear that the Supreme Court is poised to strip away a long-established right.
  • Democrats say that if the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, it would amount to a political earthquake that could drastically alter the course of the midterms.
  • “This election will determine whether the GOP is able to put in place these new, cruel, and punishing restrictions on women and families — and for voters the stakes of protecting and expanding our Democratic Senate Majority has never been higher,” Nora Keefe, a spokesperson for the DSCC, said.

Washington Post: Take a look: Senate Democrats claim in new ad that GOP ‘will light women’s rights on fire’

  • The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee unveiled a new advertising campaign that provides a window into how the party will try to use the issue against Republicans heading into the midterm elections.
  • The ads, which the DSCC said are debuting Wednesday on the MSNBC homepage, depict rapidly burning matches and warn that if Republicans win in November, “they will light women’s rights on fire.”
  • “They will make abortion illegal everywhere,” the spot says. “Punishing women, even in cases of rape, incest or to save a mother’s life. And they’re coming after birth control.”

MSNBC: On abortion rights, Dems have a pitch they’ll push ‘relentlessly’

  • The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) launched its first ad on the issue, which began appearing yesterday on MSNBC’s website.
  • “If Senate Republicans win in November, they will light women’s rights on fire,” the ad’s narrator tells viewers. “They will make abortion illegal everywhere. Punishing women, even in cases of rape, incest, or to save a mother’s life. And they’re coming after birth control — unless we vote.”
  • The ad concludes, “If we protect and expand our Democratic majority in the Senate, we’ll protect women’s rights to make their own decisions. Fight with us.”
  • Polls consistently show that most Americans want Roe v. Wade to be left intact, and that abortion should be legal in all or most cases. So, Democrats are starting to make this simple for voters: Republicans oppose reproductive rights; Democrats support reproductive rights; and the electorate should vote accordingly.

The 19th News:

  • The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), which supports Democrats in Senate races, launched its first advertisement Wednesday related to the Supreme Court’s draft ruling overturning Roe.
  • The ad took over the MSNBC.com homepage and says: “If Senate Republicans win in November, they will light women’s rights on fire.”
