Ahead of Wisconsin’s primary election on Tuesday, here’s what you need to know about Ron Johnson: during his twelve years in Washington D.C. he’s changed, lost touch with the state he’s supposed to represent, and has shown he’s only focused on his own agenda – while Wisconsin’s working families pay the price.

Here’s what to know about Senator Ron Johnson: 

Johnson’s Lost Touch With Wisconsin – And Working Families Are Paying The Price. 

• Johnson called Social Security a “ponzi scheme,” and threatened to cut Social Security and Medicare. 

• He voted to repeal protections for pre-existing conditions and spike health care costs;

• And he’s actually opposed keeping good paying jobs in the state, stating “It’s not like we don’t have enough jobs here in Wisconsin.” He voted for the GOP tax bill that rewarded companies that outsource jobs, and “fought as hard as he could” against efforts to help America out-compete countries like China. 

Johnson Spent His Time in D.C. Enriching Himself And His Political Donors. 

• Johnson personally changed the 2017 tax law, in ways that benefited his own company and gave two of his largest political donors $215 million in tax deductions in a single year. 

• The Associated Press wrote that “Johnson…pushed for a tax break in 2017 resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars in deductions to megadonors who funded his campaigns,” and The Guardian wrote that “he ‘personally benefited from a change in tax law that he sought.’” 

• Johnson’s own net worth has roughly doubled since taking office. 

Johnson’s Views Are Out Of Step With Wisconsinites. 

• Johnson called the Supreme Court decision that effectively ended abortion in Wisconsin a “really good decision,” bragged about confirming the Supreme Court judges who overturned Roe v. Wade, and said taking away medical decisions from millions of Wisconsinites would just be “a little messy.”

• Johnson’s said the January 6th insurrectionists “love this country.” 

• Johnson’s out-of-step views have led him to be called the “The Republican Party’s Foremost Amplifier of Conspiracy Theories And Disinformation.” 

• Wisconsin Editorial Boards have condemned Johnson as a “Crook,” “Unfit To Represent Wisconsin,” “The Most Irresponsible Representative Of Wisconsin Citizens Since The Infamous Sen. Joseph R. McCarthy,” and called out his “backroom dealing.”
