Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Spokesman David Bergstein issued the following statement on the passage of the House Republican tax plan:
“This bill is a write-off for the wealthy and well-connected and leaves Americans who actually work for a living to pick up the tab. Don’t take it from us: Republicans admitted they’re passing this plan to appease their donors. The middle-class shouldn’t have to pay higher taxes and higher health care costs so Republicans can fundraise, and 2018 voters will hold the GOP accountable.”
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker Paul Ryan have already admitted their tax plan would raise taxes on the middle class. The Republican tax plan could cut Medicare by $25 billion, raise taxes on the middle class by eliminating state and local tax deductions, increase taxes on student loan debt and medical expenses, and blow up the federal deficit by billions – all to pay for the tax cuts this bill would provide to the richest Americans.
