What Floridians Are Watching: Self-Serving Scott Slammed Across The State

Across the state Floridians saw their local leaders, voters and protesters speaking out against Rick Scott’s self-serving politics and dishonesty. Don’t miss this in depth report about Scott’s secret financial account and conflicts of interests — which he will now have to disclose as a federal candidate — and a new FEC complaint against him from End Citizens United for illegally coordinating with his Super PAC.

Here’s what they’re watching:

STATEWIDE: Reporter: “Democrats wasted little time attacking Governor Rick Scott, releasing a website titled Self Serving Scott along with a wave of political ads…Scott is currently in the midst of a legal dispute which seeks to see how much money is in his…blind trust.”

Fmr. Leon County Supervisor of Elections Ion Sancho: “This blind trust is nothing but a sham so he can personally profit while he was in public office.”

Reporter: “Now that Governor Scott’s announced he’s running for Senate he has 30 days to disclose his wife’s finance…Florida Democrats have posted a timer on their website keeping track of how it long it takes Governor Scott to disclose his assets.”

STATEWIDE: Fmr. Leon County Supervisor of Elections Ion Sancho: “He promised 700,000 new jobs on top of the existing jobs. That, quite frankly never happened.”

TAMPA: “The rally here in Curtis Dixon Park happening right now accusing Rick Scott of being a liar about offshore oil drilling and accusing him of bringing only low wage jobs here to Florida.”

ORLANDO: State Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith: “Puerto Ricans don’t have a very favorable view of how Donald Trump has responded to the Hurricane, nor should they have a favorable view of how the governor has responded.”

MIAMI: Democratic Leader Oscar Braynon II: “That johnny-come-lately attitude, of oh ok I’m going to do it now that it’s time for an election…to me it feels like [Scott] doesn’t have a concern for my community.”

FT. MYERS: Joy Friedman: “He’s always been a self-serving politician. He’s never been out for the people of Florida.”

JACKSONVILLE: “Scott’s announcement was quickly met with criticism from Democrats” like Democratic Leader Designate Audrey Gibson.

MIAMI: “Democrats like Fort Lauderdale Congressman Ted Deutch are calling Rick Scott bad for Florida.”

PALM BEACH: State Rep. Lori Berman: “we saw him do it with Medicaid expansion…he said he would support it, as soon as he was elected he changed his position.”

TAMPA: Katherine Heffner: “With everything that’s been going on Bill Nelson definitely has a good track record of gun control, while Rick Scott has come out in support of the NRA before…I think that Bill Nelson who has always been opposed to offshore drilling would be the perfect candidate to protect our beaches.”

FT. MYERS: Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo: “For eight years Rick Scott has put himself and his political interests above the people he serves, and in the Senate he would do the same thing.”
