New DSCC Ad Targets Barletta for Rising Health Care Costs, Rolling Back Pre-Existing Condition Coverage

Ad Marks Roughly One-Year Anniversary of the GOP’s Toxic Health Care Agenda

To mark the roughly one-year anniversary of Congressman Lou Barletta’s efforts to sabotage the health insurance system, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is launching a new round of digital advertising highlighting how the Republican agenda is making health care more expensive and less available for hardworking Americans. Congressman Barletta voted to spike health care costs and eliminate coverage for pre-existing conditions.

The six-second, non-skippable YouTube bumper ad is updated from a campaign launched a year ago and asks: “What Has The Republican Health Care Plan Cost You?” The ad in Pennsylvania hitting Barletta will reach targeted voters as part of an ongoing six-figure buy.

From Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Spokesman David Bergstein: “At every turn, Congressman Barletta backed an agenda that sabotages our health insurance system, increasing costs for hardworking Americans and threatening to take us back to the bad old days when pre-existing conditions were not covered. The Republican agenda is all about making life more expensive for the middle class in order to benefit the wealthy, well-connected special interests they care about – voters of every political persuasion will reject these wrong priorities and the DSCC is committed to making sure Barletta will be held accountable in November.”

When Republicans began to push their harmful health care agenda, the DSCC immediately joined voters in holding them accountable. Last March, the DSCC first launched its 30 second health care spot, “The Price,” — described as a “gut punch of an ad” by MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow — alongside a health care website. Since then, the DSCC has released Google search advertisements; 6-second non-skippable Youtube bumper ads in 9 states; full-screen Google takeover ads against Sens. Heller (NV), Flake (AZ), Cruz (TX) and Gov. Scott (FL); geo-targeted Google search and display ads around 4th of July parades and events; Pandora radio ads against Sens. Heller (NV) and Flake (AZ); a set of six-second, non-skippable bumper flock ads against Sens. Heller and Flake and potential Senate candidates in 8 states; and, most recently, Google search and Facebook advertisements highlighting how the GOP plan fails the “Jimmy Kimmel test.” The DSCC is the first campaign committee to utilize Google’s innovative bumper and full-screen takeover ad formats this cycle.
