Rob Portman Throws Support To Extreme Plan To Defund Planned Parenthood

Last week, the DSCC asked to know where vulnerable Senators stand on Republicans’ latest effort to defund Planned Parenthood. It didn’t take long for Rob Portman to throw his support behind the plan, choosing to side with House extremists instead of Ohio women. When asked whether he would support the latest gambit, Portman said that if defunding Planned Parenthood was in the legislation, he “would be in favor of that.”

Considering Portman’s recent suggestion that he will decide which women’s health care services are “legitimate” and “needed”, his willingness to go to any length to defund Planned Parenthood is hardly a surprise.

“Rob Portman already thinks he should be able to determine whether women’s health care is ‘legitimate’ or ‘needed,’ and after voting four times to defund Planned Parenthood, it’s no surprise that he is a loud cheerleader the newest effort to defund the organization that provides affordable health care for Ohio women,” DSCC Communications Director Sadie Weiner said. “Rob Portman is clear that he would rather play political games than stand up for women’s healthcare, and Ohio deserves better.”
