Rob Portman Votes To Shut Down DHS

Portman Chose Politics Over National Security, Border Security, Emergency Preparedness

With just one day left before a potential shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security, Rob Portman today voted against funding the agency and in favor of a shutdown. The bill that Portman opposed would fully fund DHS without politically motivated policy riders and passed the Senate on a bipartisan basis.

“With the safety and security of our communities hanging in the balance, Rob Portman has shown just how far he is willing to go to score political points,” said Sadie Weiner, National Press Secretary for the DSCC. “Ohioans deserve better than a Senator like Rob Portman who approves of government shutdowns and thinks that political games are more important than funding the Department of Homeland Security.”
