Spineless Senate GOP Vote to Advance DeVos Ally Who Opposes Women’s Health Care to Lifetime Appointment on Federal Bench

Senate Republicans voted today to advance the nomination of Steven Menashi to the federal bench, moving another step closer toward granting a lifetime judicial appointment to a partisan political operative with a long history of opposing women’s health care and rights, protections for LGBTQ Americans, and equality for people of color. Despite Menashi’s uncompromising positions and his refusal to cooperate in Senate hearings, vulnerable Republican Senators voted to push his confirmation forward.

“Senate Republicans just moved closer to confirming a partisan political operative and outspoken opponent of rights and protections for women, communities of color, and LGBTQ Americans to a lifetime appointment on the federal bench,” said DSCC spokesperson Stewart Boss. “Steven Menashi’s record and his refusal to answer questions on the work he’s done and opinions he put forward are disqualifying but Senate Republicans are ignoring the facts to move his confirmation forward.”

Not only has Menashi embraced a wide range of hardline positions and offensive views well outside the mainstream, he’s also inexperienced and unqualified for the job. Menashi has never had a single trial during his legal career.
