The Washington Post reports that just months after Senate Republicans voted to allow a multi-billion dollar raid on military funds, the Trump administration is planning to divert more than $7 billion in additional funds intended for military construction and anti-drug operations. Last year, vulnerable Senate Republicans — including Thom Tillis, Cory Gardner, Martha McSally, John Cornyn, Lindsey Graham, and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell — repeatedly voted to uphold the president’s sham emergency declaration. That came at a staggering cost to military construction projects, including many to keep servicemembers and their families safe, in their states and around the world.
“Spineless Senate Republicans opened the door to this reckless raid on military funds when they repeatedly voted to uphold the president’s multibillion-dollar cash grab last year,” said DSCC spokesperson Stewart Boss. “Republican Senators jeopardized crucial projects to keep their states’ military communities safe and prepared last year, and these craven lawmakers are silent as the president threatens to raid billions more — once again choosing political expediency over protecting their states.”
