Back in 2002, Senator Susan Collins bragged that she “must be doing something right” if her opponent did not have the support of the League of Conservation Voters, and praised LCV as the “leading environmental group in the country.” The group previously endorsed Collins for re-election in 2014 and 2008. But after Collins received a dismal 21% on LCV’s scorecard last year, the organization today endorsed her Democratic challenger, House Speaker Sara Gideon.
Collins losing this endorsement is more proof that she has changed in Washington and become more focused on siding with Mitch McConnell and her special interest donors than serving the Mainers she’s supposed to represent. Instead of doing “something right” when it comes to standing up for Mainers and protecting the environment, Senator Collins has taken a hard-right turn — voting to confirm more than a dozen of President Trump’s anti-environment nominees.
