What They’re Saying: Elias Highlights Importance Of Signature Mismatch Issue

Rick Scott Continues To Earn Criticism For False Voter Fraud Claims

On a press conference call on Saturday Senator Nelson’s lead recount lawyer Marc Elias spoke about the current state of the recount, saying “I like Sen. Nelson’s odds over those of the Governor” — and highlighted the importance of the signature mismatch issue, which has already impacted Florida voters like former Congressman Patrick Murphy.

See for yourself:

ABC OrlandoElias: ‘There is literally no scientific basis upon which lay people can compare two signatures and decide whether they match or don’t match […] Patrick Murphy also weighed in revealing on Twitter his ballot was invalidated due to signature mismatch.

Florida Politics, HEADLINE: Bill Nelson’s attorney still likes his odds. Here’s why. Even if the machines don’t pick up all potential votes, Elias expects a hand recount will find more. State law requires a manual recount if the vote margin remains within 0.25 percent.“The human eye can make judgments on voter intent that machines can’t,” Elias said. […] “I like Sen. Nelson’s odds over those of the Governor,” Elias said.

CNN’s DJ JuddNelson lawyer Marc Elias tells reporters, “I am more sure than ever that when this process is completed and all the votes are counted accurately that Senator Nelson will return to Washington for another term,” adding, “I like Senator Nelson’s odds over those of the governor’s.”

Tampa Bay Times“This is an example why signature matching is such a disfavored technique,” said Elias, who agreed with the canvassing board’s decision to include the entire batch in its tally to the state. “Is it really a rational and fair result to say let’s throw out 205 ballots? In what way is the equitable remedy there to throw out all the votes?”

Politico’s Matt Dixon@NelsonForSenate attorney @MarcElias just now on a conference call: ‘I have made clear on each of these calls that I don’t believe the under vote is solely result of ballot design’ He has been dismissive of Broward ballot design being deciding factor for days now.”

Wall Street Journal’s Alex Leary: On a call that just wrapped Marc Elias said campaign looking at possible votes not counted due to postal service delivery delay and under votes in Broward.”

WMFE’s Brendan ByrneWe just heard from @SenBillNelson campaign’s attorney Mark Elias:  – About 12K vote separate leader Scott from Nelson -Optimistic about a federal lawsuit that asks courts to examine signature policyfor absentee/provisional ballots. Some thrown out over mismatch.

WFTV’s Deanna AllbrittinOn call, @NelsonForSenate attorney questioned whether these votes should all be considered illegal, questioning whether untrained elections staff should be determining whether signatures match. He says it potentially disenfranchises potential voters. Marc Elias also said he believes the Senate race “undervote” issue in Broward County (and to a lesser extent across the state) will be somewhat corrected by the machine recount and fully corrected with a manual recount.

Meanwhile Rick Scott continued to draw criticism for his false claims of voter fraud:

Florida Politics’ AG Gancarski: Not sure @FLGovScott @ScottforFlorida helped himself on @FoxNews just now: unverified accusations of vote fraud from @NelsonForSenate & no good answer why he didn’t address election “fraud” issues over his 8 years. Probably should have done @foxandfriends instead of the big show.
Tampa Bay Times: Scott’s request for FDLE probe of Broward vote draws criticism — and goes nowhere

Miami Herald: State elections observers have seen no evidence of illegal activity in Broward County

Politico: Rick Scott’s monitors agree with state cops: No Florida voter fraud
