WATCH: “Head-Spinning” GOP Primary Makes Tillis’ Re-Election “That Much Tougher”

“I think Thom Tillis made a huge mistake”

“The ‘Thom Tillis Effect’ here: the day after he gets a… real conservative threat. Boy, you saw that Tillis was not a happy man”

Senator Thom Tillis earned a legitimate Republican primary challenger who is already running ads slamming Tillis for his “Olympic gold flip-flop” on President Trump’s national emergency declaration – and by yesterday, Tillis had again caved to pressure from the White House and was criticizing fellow North Carolina Republican Senator Richard Burr for attempting to do his job. Between the attacks from within his party and the “icky” attempts to get on President Trump’s good side, political observers agree Tillis’ road to re-election has gotten “that much tougher.”

How terrible was Tillis’ week? Watch for yourself.

Read more here about Tillis’ truly terrible week:

  • New York Times: “The main target of the pressure campaign appeared to be Senator Thom Tillis, Republican of North Carolina, a close ally of Mr. Burr’s who is facing a conservative primary challenger next year. Some of Mr. Trump’s allies said they anticipated that the president would tweet support for Mr. Tillis’s primary opponent if the senator did not speak out.”
  • WRAL Editorial: “Is Tillis so intimidated by a primary challenge that he’ll sacrifice every last shred of integrity. Don’t doubt Garland Tucker will make all that an issue in his primary challenge.”
