DSCC Statement on West Virginia Republicans’ “Battle Royale” Senate Primary

In response to Jim Justice entering West Virginia’s GOP Senate primary, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesperson Amanda Sherman Baity released the following statement: 

“West Virginia’s GOP Senate primary is going to be a nasty, messy and expensive fight and whichever candidate manages to hobble out of their intraparty battle will be damaged and out of step with the voters who will decide the general election.” 

What to know about West Virginia Republicans’ “messy primary” “battle royale”:

• Justice’s entrance into the race is “setting up a divisive and costly GOP primary,” as Republicans are bracing for a “messy” and “bruising intraparty fight.” 
  
  
• Alex Mooney vowed not to drop out of the primary, stating “there’s no scenario by which I would do anything but run for the U.S. Senate,” and his campaign released internal polling that outlines a plan “to attack [Jim] Justice.”
