Ayotte to Cast Fourth Vote to Defund Planned Parenthood & Will Cut Access to Drug Treatment Even As New Hampshire Faces Heroin Crisis

Kelly Ayotte will support a hyper-partisan plan to defund Planned Parenthood and end Medicaid expansion, limiting access to drug treatment programs even as New Hampshire confronts a substance abuse crisis. This will be Ayotte’s fourth vote to cut federal funds for the women’s health care provider, and Medicaid expansion has been an important part of New Hampshire’s fight against substance abuse.

Meanwhile, Senator Jeanne Shaheen explained just how harmful the effort Ayotte supports will be for New Hampshire families:

“A vote for this bill is a vote to deny Granite Staters access to health care. In New Hampshire, this reckless proposal would revoke health care coverage for over 44,000 low-income families now covered under Medicaid, eliminate tax credits for 28,000 Granite Staters who receive coverage through the federal marketplace, and deny health services to the 12,000 women who depend on Planned Parenthood.”

“Old habits die hard for this one term senator who has spent the last year scrambling to rewrite her record of putting the political special interests that bankroll her campaign ahead of New Hampshire,” said Lauren Passalacqua, DSCC National Press Secretary. “Ayotte’s support for this plan is the latest example of her willingness to leave Granite Staters hanging out to dry so she can make her political bosses and special interest friends happy.”
