Donald Trump Is Making The GOP Senate Primary In PA – And Across The Country – Worse

As Donald Trump holds a rally tonight in Pennsylvania with his endorsed candidate in the GOP Senate primary, catch up quick on how he’s escalating the infighting amongst Republicans in the state, and in Senate battlegrounds across the country. 

From Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesperson Patrick Burgwinkle: “Donald Trump’s interjection into Pennsylvania’s GOP Senate primary has only escalated the chaos in the race and nasty attacks the Republicans are leveling against each other. Mehmet Oz and David McCormick have spent months and tens of millions of dollars tearing each other apart, and today’s rally is only going to pour fuel on the dumpster fire that is the GOP’s intraparty brawl.”

In Pennsylvania:

• Trump’s endorsement of Oz has failed to clear the field or stop nasty infighting – this week’s GOP primary debate “devolved into a string of attacks,” as candidates “tried to make hay out of the business ties to China by former hedge fund CEO David McCormick and Mehmet Oz.”

• There has been a barrage of new spending and vicious attack ads: In a new ad this week, Oz slams McCormick for praising China and for saying that he ‘appreciated Biden,’ while a new ad from McCormick allies charges that “Mehmet Oz will betray us.”

• When Trump held a recent tele-town hall with Oz he slammed McCormick, saying “some of the opponents, I have to tell you, are very pro-China and they’re going to let China eat our lunch; we can’t let that happen” – setting the stage for more nasty attacks on McCormick this evening.

In Arizona:

• CNN reported that “Trump had apparently settled on the contentious Senate GOP primary in Arizona as his next target” and that he has “talked about throwing his weight behind a candidate in the Grand Canyon State before the end of this month.”

• Trump “called into Republican U.S. Senate candidate Blake Masters’ campaign event Saturday night” where he reportedly slammed Mark Brnovich for his handling of ‘election fraud’ in Arizona. 

• Masters has challenged Brnovich to “debate him on election integrity issues” as this ugly GOP Senate primary continues to be dominated by infighting and the Big Lie. 

In Georgia:

• Herschel Walker continues to face vicious attacks from his GOP rivals despite Trump’s endorsement – the AP reported that this week’s GOP primary debate was dominated by “the other candidates taking turns dunking on his absence.”

• While holding a tele-town hall this week for David Perdue, Trump said “One of the problems also is if Brian Kemp gets in, I think it’s going to be very, very hard for Herschel Walker to win,” adding that “I don’t believe Republicans are going to go out and vote for Brian Kemp. And if they’re not voting for Brian Kemp, they’re not going to be able to vote for Herschel Walker.”

And in North Carolina:

• Trump’s endorsement of Ted Budd has spurred “millions of dollars in TV ad spending from the Club for Growth PAC” who have “aired TV ads for months” slamming Pat McCrory.

• McCrory charged this week that Budd is “attempting to buy the GOP Senate nomination for about $15 million” and referred to the Club as the “Club for Chinese Growth.” The Budd campaign hit back at McCrory saying “desperate candidates gonna do desperate things.”

• The AP reported that both McCrory and Walker spent the final GOP primary debate “criticizing rival Rep. Ted Budd for his absence from another television forum.”
