DSCC Congratulates Cal Cunningham on Primary Victory in North Carolina

Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, Chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, issued the following statement congratulating Cal Cunningham on his primary victory in North Carolina:

“Cal’s decisive victory sends a clear message that North Carolinians are ready for a Senator who will stand up for them. Cal has worked hard to earn support from voters and local leaders across the state and raise the resources needed to compete in this critical battleground, and his strong grassroots-powered campaign explains why Washington Republicans were terrified to run against him. Cal’s focus on taking on the corruption in Washington, expanding access to high-quality affordable health care, and standing up for veterans and military families will continue to show a clear contrast with a vulnerable incumbent. We look forward to continuing to support his campaign to victory in November.”

The latest NBC News/Marist poll released Sunday found Cal Cunningham leading Senator Tillis by 5 points. Cunningham outraised Tillis two to one in the pre-primary filing period, raising $1.4 million and earning an average of nearly 93 new North Carolina donors per day in that time frame. Cunningham is the candidate Republicans did not want to face in the general election, and independent election analysts have already moved the race in Democrats’ direction to toss-up.
