DSCC Congratulates Congressman Ben Ray Luján in New Mexico

Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, Chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, issued the following statement congratulating Representative Ben Ray Luján on advancing to the general election in New Mexico:

“Congressman Ben Ray Luján is a relentless advocate for the priorities of working families and it’s clear that New Mexicans are fired up to send him to the Senate. Ben Ray has dedicated his career to serving his community, and in Congress he has proven himself as a deeply principled and highly effective leader. In the Senate, Ben Ray will continue fighting for the issues that matter most to New Mexicans – bringing down the cost of health care and prescription drugs, protecting our natural resources, and leading efforts to support New Mexico’s economic recovery amid this public health crisis.”

Congressman Ben Ray Luján has been a longtime political leader in New Mexico and he enters the general election in a strong position to hold this open Democratic Senate seat. As the former chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, he successfully led the fight to take back control of the House of Representatives in 2018. In his role as the Assistant Speaker of the House, Ben Ray Luján is the highest-ranking Hispanic member of Congress. Congressman Luján’s campaign momentum continues to grow – he has raised more than $1 million four quarters in a row, and he once again outraised the entire Republican field last quarter.
