DSCC: GOP Attacks on Abortion Access Escalating in Senate Battlegrounds & Nationwide

In response to developing court cases further threatening abortion access this week in Texas, Arizona, and at the U.S. Supreme Court, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesperson Nora Keefe issued the following statement:

“Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Republicans have only intensified their attacks on women’s right to make our own health care decisions. Republican candidates are on the record pushing their dangerous policies, and Republican court battles are threatening women’s access to abortion in Senate battlegrounds and across the country. In 2024, voters will hold every Republican Senate candidate accountable for their party’s agenda that would ban abortion nationwide and take away women’s right to make medical decisions for ourselves.” 

This week:

• The Texas Supreme Court prohibited a life-saving abortion for a pregnant woman whose fetus was diagnosed with a fatal condition. When asked to comment, Ted Cruz ran away from reporters, refusing to explain his support for the state’s ban.

• The Arizona Supreme Court started hearing arguments on the state’s draconian abortion ban that Kari Lake has repeatedly supported.

• The U.S Supreme Court is considering restricting access to a common abortion medication nationwide.
