GOP Summer of Chaos: Infighting Continues to Escalate in GOP Senate Primaries

This week, Senate Republicans’ “intraparty rifts that defined the 2022 cycle and contributed to the GOP’s loss[es]” were once again on full display in races across the map.

• In Arizona, failed 2022 AZ Senate Republican nominee Blake Masters is reportedly planning to announce another Senate run, “put[ting] him on a potential collision course with Kari Lake.” Lake has already started taking “some shots at Masters,” “accusing him of being ‘silent’ on the issue of election fraud and saying he’s done nothing to ‘to root out voter fraud, or simply show support those of us who are pushing for election reform.’” The prospect of a “MAGA war” between “two high-profile 2022 election losers” has Republicans “fear[ing] they may blow it again.”
  
  
  
  
• In Montana, a new poll shows Matt Rosendale “clobber[ing]” Tim Sheehy in a head-to-head match up, an indication that the “Senate GOP campaign arm’s pick… is not faring well in a potential primary.” The poll, combined with Matt Rosendale’s “widely expected” entrance and in-state endorsements, suggests “not everything is going according to plan” with the NRSC’s “primary intervention strategy,” and yet another “messy primar[y]” is brewing.
  
  
  
  
• In Michigan, Mike Rogers, Peter Meijer and James Craig are reportedly considering entering the Republican Senate primary. Craig has already sought to downplay the strength of his potential rivals, claiming he is “not concerned about either candidate.” The field is “expected to be crowded” in a state where the party is “broken and battered.”
