Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans Leave For Vacation After Blocking Emergency Unemployment Relief, Leaving Millions of Americans At Risk

DSCC spokesperson Stewart Boss issued the following statement as Mitch McConnell and Republicans adjourned the Senate until September 8th after blocking emergency unemployment relief, leaving millions of Americans at risk:

“Mitch McConnell said months ago he ‘felt no urgency to act’ on passing additional coronavirus relief and extending the emergency unemployment aid that Senate Republicans have now allowed to lapse. Millions of Americans can’t afford groceries or pay rent or cover the cost of their medication, but Republicans care more about political games in Washington than the struggles that hardworking families are facing across the country. Come November, voters will make sure these cowardly Republican incumbents have all the time they want for recess.”

Here is a timeline that details how McConnell and Senate Republicans wasted months and refused to take action to extend emergency unemployment relief, despite knowing it was expiring at the end of July.
