New Report Shows President Biden and Senate Democrats’ American Rescue Plan Helped “Substantially Reduced Hardship”

A new analysis of Census Bureau surveys reveals that the latest round of pandemic relief helped “substantially reduced hardship” and “significantly improved Americans’ ability to buy food and pay household bills and reduced anxiety and depression.”

Analysts found that following the passage of Democrats’ American Rescue Plan, reports of food shortages fell 42%, financial instability dropped 43%, and anxiety and depression declined by more than 20%.

“If it were up to Senate Republicans, hardworking Americans would have never received much-needed pandemic aid that is allowing them to pay their bills and put food on the table for their families,” said DSCC spokesperson Jazmin Vargas. “Come 2022, voters won’t forget how Senate Democrats fought for the shots, checks, and jobs Americans needed to turn the page on this pandemic, while every single Republican Senator voted against the American Rescue Plan and stood in the way of our country’s recovery and tangible relief for Americans.”

Reminder: every single Republican Senator voted against a plan that:

  • Delivered $1,400 direct relief checks
  • Ramped up access to vaccines and testing
  • Provided additional local funding to help schools safely reopen
  • Sent critical aid to state and local governments to help keep first responders on the job
  • Extended emergency unemployment insurance
  • Boosted critical small business assistance
