DSCC Communications Director Sadie Weiner issued the following statement on Republican Senate candidates’ reaction to Donald Trump’s sexist rage against Alicia Machado:
“The problem with Republicans’ reaction? There isn’t one. Senate candidates have not disavowed Donald Trump and the sexist rage he’s directed at Alicia Machado. We’ve heard this type of vitriol lobbed against Gold Star families, African American communities, immigrants and, of course, women. Still, self-interested politicians like Kelly Ayotte, Pat Toomey, Rob Portman, Ron Johnson, Richard Burr, Joe Heck, Roy Blunt, John McCain, Marco Rubio and Chuck Grassley continue to stand by their standard-bearer. These candidates owe an explanation to women and families across their states: how can they continue to support a candidate who calls women ‘disgusting’?”
