After running out of excuses for why he wouldn’t directly comment on North Carolina’s discriminatory law, known as HB2, Senator Richard Burr has come out saying that it “does not discriminate.” This would be laughable if it weren’t such a serious matter. Meanwhile, local North Carolina businesses, major companies like Google, PayPal, Dow Chemical and the NBA, and more than 80 business leaders and CEOs condemned the law.
Burr also said he’d “leave it up to the courts,” – a problem given that he will not do his own job and fill the current vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court.
“Senator Burr is standing up for a discriminatory state law that’s bad for North Carolina families and businesses,” said Lauren Passalacqua, DSCC National Press Secretary. “North Carolinians, local businesses and even major companies have disavowed the policy and it’s shameful that Senator Burr will not do the same.”
