“We Have To Keep Voting In Elections Up-And-Down The Ballot” – Democratic Strategist Antjuan Seawright Emphasizes Importance of Black Voter Turnout in Midterm Election

Democratic strategist and CBS News political contributor Antjuan Seawright joined Keepin’ It Real With Rev. Al Sharpton on SiriusXM Urban View to talk about the importance of Black voter turnout and what’s at stake for Black voters in the 2022 Senate campaigns.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT
Keepin’ It Real with Reverend Al Sharpton

Key Points:

  • Part of motivation, Reverend Al, is making sure that our constituencies are educated on what we’ve done and part of that means meeting people where they are and speaking to them where they can understand.
  • That’s why I was so proud of the work that the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is doing – 30 million dollars into 9 States predominantly where heavy African American voters will make or break the election and we’re talking to them early at the DSCC.
  • On top of another 10 million dollars from a voter protection standpoint, and we’re not waiting until the Sunday before the election to talk to the most consequential voting bloc in a generation and that’s Black voters.
  • We have to keep voting in elections up-and-down the ballot every single election cycle so we can continue to get things done because if we fix one problem, truth be told, there’s always going to be other problems to be fixed, and the only way we do that is by keep showing up in elections so we can have people at the table making decisions that will help mitigate and fix these problems that have been generational.
  • My mother said this to me last week… I don’t think people realize that these elections from here on out, they’re not about Democrats or Republicans, they literally are about life and death for certain communities and certain communities will either live or die based on how these elections play out and I think we have to start speaking that kind of language to people about how serious the stakes are in these elections.
