Weekly West Virginia “Battle Royale” Senate Primary Update

A new failure by Justice to disclose potential conflict of interests, sparring over Mooney’s candidacy, helicopter drama, and attacks over Justice’s “litany of financial scandals:” here’s what you might have missed this week in West Virginia’s “messy,” “costly,” and “bruising” GOP primary.

  • After Justice announced a new development that will benefit the Morgantown Industrial Park, new reporting from The Intelligencer revealed  Justice “has connections to the property going back decades. According to both his 2023 financial disclosure report with the West Virginia Ethics Commission and his U.S. Senate financial disclosure report filed last month, Justice has business and property interests in the Morgantown Industrial Park.” Mooney leapt on this scandal, saying Justice “abuses the powers of government to line his own pockets and those of his donors.”

  • Justice’s helicopter scandal continued to escalate. Caroleng Investments Ltd., the parent company of Russian mining and steel company Mechel, is pushing forward with efforts to have federal marshals to seize Justice’s helicopter in hopes of recouping some of the millions that Justice owes them.
