Weekly West Virginia “Battle Royale” Senate Primary Update

Workplace safety violations, unpaid loans, and name-calling: here’s what you might have missed last week in West Virginia’s “messy,” “costly,” and “bruising” GOP primary.

• New reporting details that Jim Justice’s companies are the subject of “multiple unpaid tax liens”  and “dozens of safety violations” that “pose significant health risks” to mine workers. This is “only the most recent” in a “long history” of Jim Justice’s failure to meet his “financial and work safety obligations,” including public safety violations, unpaid fees and taxes, and millions of dollars in debt.

• Mooney called Justice a “reckless spender” and  “unfit to represent [West Virginians] in Washington,” highlighting recent reporting detailing that Justice “owes more than $3.5 million in failed loan payments to a small West Virginia bank.”
