Unelected Senator Kelly Loeffler’s personal scandals continued this week — new Mother Jones reporting revealed that as the political mega-donor opposed urgently needed coronavirus relief, her husband’s firm Intercontinental Exchange (where she still holds “between $5 million and $25 million in stock”) was profiting. While Loeffler has “done little to address the housing and economic crises triggered by the coronavirus,” ICE took advantage of that effect on the housing market to advance their own financial goals. PERDUE & LOEFFLER DEFINED BY PATTERN OF “NAKED CORRUPTION.” A series of reports this week highlighted how a pattern of “naked corruption” has come to define the case against Senators Perdue and Loeffler. The two ultra-rich corporate insiders are facing increasing criticism and scrutiny as “a raft of new stories from various outlets has created a cascading effect of information” about their “controversial” stock trading and how they have abused their offices to increase their “already substantial wealth” during this pandemic.
PERDUE & LOEFFLER STAND WITH MCCONNELL AS COVID RELIEF PROGRAMS SET TO EXPIRE. Millions of Americans are “vulnerable to eviction and hunger” with critical relief programs set to expire this month, but Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler continue to stand with Majority Leader McConnell as he proposes yet another stunt bill that shortchanges hardworking Americans while prioritizing corporate immunity for Republicans’ special interest donors seeking to put workers and consumers at risk. Since much of the federal emergency unemployment aid expired in July, Perdue and Loeffler, have refused to negotiate on a serious effort that can pass Congress and repeatedly stood against extending emergency relief that so many Georgians have relied on to meet basic needs, turning their backs on those who desperately need help and doing the bidding of their corporate donors in Washington.
UGLY CIVIL WAR THREATENS TO TEAR GEORGIA GOP APART. It keeps getting messier for Republicans in Georgia as an increasingly ugly intraparty battle is causing major headaches and anxiety at a time when the GOP can least afford it: ahead of two highly competitive Senate runoffs. Republicans’ “worst nightmare” came true this week when former Trump lawyer Sidney Powell promoted false conspiracy theories about voting fraud and told Georgia Republicans not to vote in the runoffs. Senators Perdue and Loeffler spent weeks promoting the same unhinged conspiracy theories and were finally called out by a top GOP elections official, but they still refused to apologize for amplifying the baseless theories that have sparked threats against state and local election workers. Now, Republicans are increasingly anxious that President Trump will continue to stoke discord within the party during a visit to the state this weekend. Trump has refused to accept his loss in Georgia, openly attacked Republican Governor Brian Kemp, “privately complained about Loeffler,” and gotten “annoyed with Perdue.”
“NO PROOF” LOEFFLER’S SHAM PLAN PROTECTS PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS COVERAGE. Unelected Senator Kelly Loeffler’s sham health care plan continues to get shot down by independent fact checkers. PolitiFact ruled Loeffler’s claim that her health care plan would protect people with pre-existing conditions as “False” and policy experts once again blasted her “thinly detailed plan” for failing to live up to its promises. Health policy analysts shredded Loeffler’s plan as “short on details and substance, and long on political posturing,” and “like giving a family one bag of sand to protect their home as a hurricane rushes in.” A new fact check today from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution highlighted Loeffler’s continued support of the Trump administration’s attempts to rip health care away from Georgians and says “there are no details or specifics offered to support her claim that she would protect pre-existing conditions.” The reality is Loeffler’s plan would make affordable insurance less accessible and force those with pre-existing conditions onto plans offering “very limited and very expensive coverage.”
