DSCC QUICK TAKES: MCSALLY TELLS DONORS “FAST A MEAL”—GARDNER BILL CALLED “HORSE EXCREMENT”—COLLINS CAMPAIGNS WITH TRUMP SIGNS—POSTAL SERVICE IN CRISIS

REPUBLICANS PUSH POSTAL SERVICE INTO CRISIS AS MCCONNELL PLEDGES TO BLOCK BIPARTISAN EMERGENCY USPS FUNDING. Republicans have pushed the Postal Service into a nationwide crisis that is delaying the mail delivery of prescription drugs for veterans and seniors, slowing down Social Security payments, harming small businesses, and threatening to disenfranchise voters in 46 states across the country and put the election at risk. Democrats have prioritized USPS funding in future coronavirus relief and the House passed a bill this weekend with support from 26 Republican lawmakers that would “inject emergency funding into the U.S. Postal Service and reverse changes that have hampered mail delivery.” But Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans are pledging to block the bipartisan-backed emergency USPS funding, even as reports detail how mail delays are putting “thousands of American lives at risk.”

MEANWHILE: MAIL DELIVERY DELAYS ARE CREATING CRISIS FOR AMERICANS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. And while Mitch McConnell is dismissing concerns about the Postal Service as “overblown conspiracy theories” and the Senate Republican caucus keeps blocking emergency funding, the mail delays caused by the GOP attacks on the postal service are inflicting pain on Americans across the country. Check out some recent headlines from across the country:

NEW VIDEO: GOP SENATORS ON VACATION NOW IN MIDDLE OF CORONAVIRUS CRISIS, BUT CALLED FOR CANCELING PREVIOUS AUGUST RECESSES. The DSCC released a new video today that highlights how the vulnerable Republican senators who are currently on a month-long vacation in the middle of a pandemic-fueled recession and national crisis have previously demanded to “skip the annual August break” in order “to complete the legislative work that had gone unaccomplished.” Before going on recess, Senate Republicans blocked emergency unemployment relief, failed to pass additional support for state and local governments, and refused to provide emergency funding for the Postal Service. Read what the Republicans on vacation have said previously about canceling recess.

MCSALLY TELLS DONORS TO “FAST A MEAL” TO FUND HER CAMPAIGN. The backlash was swift after unelected Senator Martha McSally was caught on tape telling supporters to “fast a meal” so they can donate to her campaign. One GOP operative called McSally’s tone-deaf request an “act of desperation” that came as McSally is on a month-long recess even while Republicans in the Senate continue to block emergency unemployment relief. McSally’s latest desperate plea comes as she is behind in the polls and trailing in fundraising to Navy combat veteran and retired NASA astronaut Mark Kelly.

GARDNER’S SHAM PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS BILL CALLED “HORSE EXCREMENT.” 9News’ Kyle Clark and Marshall Zelinger exposed Gardner’s latest attempt to rewrite his toxic record on health care: a sham bill that “is actually horse excrement.” The must-watch report found that the 117-word bill still allows insurance companies to deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions — and when 9News tried to ask Gardner about the bill, he refused to speak with them. The bill has already been called “a political stunt” by experts who say it is “motivated more by politics than substance.” The reality is Gardner and Senate Republicans have “spent the last few years trying to take away pre-existing condition protections” and Gardner can’t erase his toxic history on health care just because it’s an election year. Watch 9News’ Report on Gardner’s sham bill:

AFTER 600+ DAYS OF DODGING WHETHER SHE SUPPORTS PRESIDENT’S REELECT, SENATOR COLLINS CAMPAIGNS SURROUNDED BY TRUMP SIGNS. For 617 days, Senator Susan Collins has dodged questions on whether she will vote for President Trump in November. But while Collins refuses to be honest with Mainers about her stance on Trump’s re-election campaign, the vulnerable incumbent made it pretty clear where she stands this weekend when she campaigned in Springvale surrounded by Trump campaign signs and posing with Trump campaign staff. When Senator Collins herself tweeted about the event, her campaign team tried to hide the evidence of the Trump campaign’s presence — even going out of their way to blur out the corner of a Trump sign. Senator Collins’ can’t change the facts about her record: the nation’s least popular senator has voted with Trump 94% of the time and overwhelmingly supported his agenda and his judicial nominees — demonstrating just how much she’s changed after more than two decades in Washington.
