The DSCC released a new TV ad in Iowa’s Senate race, “Under the Microscope,” outlining Senator Joni Ernst’s history of campaign finance scandals.
An Associated Press report revealed Senator Ernst’s dark money scandal, detailing the “dark money ties” to a group her top aides set up to benefit her reelection. Senator Ernst and her campaign already had a record of breaking campaign finance law. In her 2014 campaign, the Federal Election Commission found that Ernst’s campaign knowingly accepted illegal contributions and was forced to pay the largest penalty ever for an Iowa politician.
The ad is the third to run in Iowa from the DSCC IE and is part of the committee’s previously announced offensive investments in key battleground states.
“Developing right now, Senator Joni Ernst is under the microscope accused of having ties to dark money… Dark money groups… Dark money groups… Will Joni Ernst ever play by the rules? This time Ernst is accused of illegally coordinating with a dark money group. Ernst’s campaign was already caught breaking the law once before, knowingly taking illegal contributions and forced to pay the largest FEC fine in Iowa history. If Joni Ersnt can’t win by following the rules, maybe it’s time we rule her out.”
