DSCC Statement on Katie McGinty’s Primary Victory in Pennsylvania

Tom Lopach, Executive Director of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, issued the following statement about Katie McGinty’s primary night victory in Pennsylvania:

“We are proud to congratulate Katie McGinty on her victory in tonight’s primary. Katie begins the general election in a strong position to defeat Senator Pat Toomey. As the ninth of ten kids and the first in her family to go to a four-year college, Katie understands the issues facing working folks in Pennsylvania, and she is ready to tackle those issues with commonsense solutions.

“That’s a stark contrast to Senator Toomey, whose special interest allies will launch a six-figure TV ad tomorrow in an effort to prop up a candidate whose spent his time in Washington standing for Wall Street at the expense of Pennsylvanians. Senator Toomey is refusing to do his job on the Supreme Court vacancy, voted to protect tax breaks corporations that ship jobs overseas, and he’s repeatedly voted to cut Pell Grant funding and opposed refinancing interest rates for Pennsylvanians paying off their student loans. He’s stood by as Donald Trump took over his party and voted today for the architect of the federal shutdown, Ted Cruz. Pennsylvania voters need a champion for the middle class who will fight for them, and Katie will be their voice. We are proud to support Katie and look forward to welcoming her to the Senate in November.”
