DSCC Statement on NRSC Fundraiser for Kari Lake

Arizona Republic: “Kari Lake’s charm offensive is more offensive than charming for moderate Republicans”

Ahead of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) fundraiser for Kari Lake today, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesperson Maeve Coyle issued the following statement: 

“Kari Lake is the poster child for Senate Republicans’ abysmal recruits: a deeply flawed candidate with massive personal baggage, Lake is an election loser despised by Republicans in Arizona and across the country. Voters rejected her before and will do so again.” 

What to know about Kari Lake:

• Kari Lake’s campaign is Republicans’ worst nightmare: Republicans said they have “deep concerns” about Lake’s candidacy and “fear they may blow it again.” The Former Yuma County Republican Party Chair called her a “grifter and a sore loser.” A Republican strategist said “if she runs, Republicans lose.”

• When the NRSC endorsed Kari Lake, they cited her efforts to “unite Republicans,” which prompted the Arizona Republic to write: “Has anyone in Arizona actually seen this Lake?” According to Arizona Republicans, “it’s like she successfully described to the NRSC what she needs to do… but she sure hasn’t actually done it yet.”

• Lake has dangerous views and harmful policies: she backed an abortion ban without exceptions, would end Medicare and Social Security, and is “one of the nation’s leading conspiracy theorists” with fringe ideas like recording children in classrooms. Political analysts say “her hard-right views are not palatable to the Arizona electorate at large.”
