DSCC FRIDAY TAKEAWAYS: ANOTHER BAD WEEK FOR GOP SENATE CANDIDATES WHO “PRETEND TO BE SOMETHING THEY’RE NOT,” HOVDE’S “PROBLEM WITH OLDER VOTERS”

It’s been another bad week for Senate Republican candidates who “pretend to be something they’re not” and “can’t take the heat” on the campaign trail.

MSNBC details how multiple GOP Senate candidates have been caught lying about their biographies – spotlighting Tim Sheehy and Dave McCormick who have both been exposed for lying about their upbringings:

  • “Sheehy isn’t the only Republican Senate candidate who’s made curious claims about a rural past.”
  • “There appears to be a disconnect between GOP Senate hopeful Dave McCormick’s claims about starting ‘with nothing’ and his actual family background.”
  • “It becomes a political problem…when political candidates pretend to be something they’re not.”

GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN → Meanwhile, the National Journal observed that GOP Senate candidates “can’t take the heat” as their biographical lies come under scrutiny:

  • “These GOP political neophytes are starting to balk at the media scrutiny that comes with running for statewide office as the general election comes into focus.”
  • “These recent stories aren’t chasing some decades-old controversy or scandal du jour. The reporters are asking relevant questions about how candidates are presenting themselves to voters and gauging their fitness to serve.”

  • Hotline: The DSCC’s ad knocks McCormick’s wealth and raises questions about his residency.
  • The Hill: Senate Democrats’ campaign arm launched a new digital ad on Tuesday attacking Republican Dave McCormick after the businessman officially became the nominee for Senate in Pennsylvania.

SHEEHY KEEPS GETTING SLAMMED FOR SHADY STORIES → Fallout and backlash is growing for Tim Sheehy following multiple reports revealing he has given “several inconsistent accounts” about his military record, lied about growing up in “rural” Minnesota, and more that “doesn’t add up.”

HOVDE HAUNTED BY ELDER ABUSE LAWSUIT → A bombshell report from the New York Times revealed that Eric Hovde’s bank was “named as a co-defendant in a California lawsuit that accuses a senior living facility partly owned by the bank of elder abuse, negligence, and wrongful death.” This comes after Hovde made shocking claims that “seniors shouldn’t vote” saying, “people in nursing homes aren’t ‘in a point’ to vote.” Read more:

MEANWHILE…HOVDE PLEDGES ALLEGIANCE, TO…UMMM → This week, while attempting to recite the national anthem, Eric Hovde “missed a line,” forgetting “one nation, under God.” Read more in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and watch for yourself.

NASTY IN NEVADA The New York Times detailed how Sam Brown was “jolted” last week “when a deep-pocketed rival took aim” at him. Jeff Gunter, another Republican candidate, has spent millions in the race attacking Brown, criticizing him for having “little to point to as far as experience or expertise.”

LAKE DROWNING IN BAD PRESS, CALLS FOR SHERIFFS TO ENFORCE 1864 ABORTION BAN → This week, Kari Lake once again made headlines for all the wrong reasons, this time for saying it was unfortunate the 1864 abortion ban is not currently being enforced, calling “on Arizona county sheriffs to enforce 1864 abortion ban,” and telling Arizonans upset about the abortion ban they could just drive three hours to another state. Read more:

ANOTHER L FOR LAKE → Kari Lake experienced another national embarrassment as the Supreme Court “toss[ed] aside” and rejected her “frivolous” election denialism appeal case in her “latest legal setback.”

REPUBLICANS’ LATEST ATTACK ON ABORTION ACCESS AT SCOTUS → As the Supreme Court heard a case that seeks to ban access to abortion even in life-threatening emergencies, Democrats including the DSCC are warning and reminding voters of the threat a Republican-controlled Senate poses.

  • 📣 DSCC SAYS: “Republicans are using every tool they have, from the courts to Congress, to ban abortion and take away women’s right to make medical decisions for themselves – even in the case of a life-threatening emergency. This case is a clear reminder of the stakes of the Senate election, and the importance of protecting Democrats’ Senate majority with the power to confirm or deny Supreme Court justices.”

VOTE ALERT: CRUZ, SCOTT SELL OUT AMERICAN SAFETY → Even as our country and American service members face multiple threats across the globe, Senators Ted Cruz and Rick Scott voted against the Senate’s national security funding legislation. In response, the DSCC released the following statement:

  • “Cruz and Scott’s vote is a gift to America’s adversaries in Russia, China, and the Middle East. In November, voters will hold them accountable for this dangerous position.”
