DSCC Statement on Sen. Scott’s Attacks on Social Security

Today marks the 88th anniversary of Social Security being signed into law

In response to the 88th anniversary of Social Security being signed into law, today Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee spokesperson Maeve Coyle issued the following statement:

“First Scott oversaw the largest Medicare fraud in American history – now he’s the architect of a plan to end Social Security, raising costs for Florida seniors and stripping away the benefits they’ve earned through a lifetime of hard work. In 2024 Florida voters will hold him accountable.”

The facts about Scott’s record attacking Social Security:

  • Scott has a plan that would put an “end to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid… and potentially more.”  [Dana Milbank, Washington Post, 3/11/22]

  • Scott’s plan “would also sunset — eliminate — all federal legislation over five years under the (risky) assumption that worthy laws would be reenacted,” “even popular programs.” [Dana Milbank, Washington Post, 3/11/22; Washington Post, 2/08/23]

  • Scott has since “doubled down on” his plan and “he has not once expressed regret.” [Washington Post, 2/08/23; Washington Post, 4/18/22]

To mark Medicare’s anniversary this year, the DSCC launched advertising highlighting Scott’s agenda to slash Medicare and Social Security.
