DSCC Statement on Senate Republican Candidates’ Plan to Overturn Affordable Care Act

Ahead of the 14th anniversary of the enactment of the Affordable Care Act, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) spokesperson Tommy Garcia released the following statement on Republican Senate candidates’ threats to the Affordable Care Act: 

“Across the Senate battlegrounds, Republican candidates have pledged to overturn the Affordable Care Act. Their reckless agenda would spike health care costs and gut coverage protections for Americans with preexisting conditions, and in November, voters will hold every Republican Senate candidate accountable for their continued attacks on this vital legislation.” 

Here are the facts about Republican Senate candidates’ plans to overturn the Affordable Care Act (ACA): 

• In Arizona, Kari Lake called for repealing the ACA.

• In Florida, Rick Scott was not only an architect of Trump’s efforts to repeal the ACA, but Scott’s 2022 Rescue America Plan would sunset the ACA.

• In Michigan, Mike Rogers, Peter Meijer and Sandy Pensler all support “repealing the [ACA], a move which would lead to millions of Michiganders being denied care or potentially losing coverage altogether.” Justin Amash also called for repealing the ACA.
  
  
• In Montana, Tim Sheehy called for “returning ‘healthcare to pure privatization,’” a position that would dismantle the ACA.

• In Nevada, Sam Brown has opposed the ACA and listed “fighting against Obamacare” as a priority in his campaign in Texas. Jim Marchant supports repealing the ACA.

• In Ohio, Bernie Moreno said he is “willing to repeal” the ACA. 

• In Pennsylvania, David McCormick criticized Mehmet Oz for supporting the ACA and his campaign and outside groups spent millions of dollars attacking Oz over his support for the ACA.

• In Texas, Ted Cruz says he “remains committed to a full repeal” of the ACA.

• In Wisconsin, Eric Hovde called for repealing the ACA “in its entirety,” and campaigned on overturning the ACA.
