Do Florida Senate Candidates Support Bill to Defund Preventive Care for Women?

A bill that would block state funding for preventive women’s health services is headed to Florida Governor Rick Scott’s desk. The bill wouldblock funding from going to organizations like Planned Parenthood for critical preventive women’s health services such as cancer screenings and HIV testing.

Where do the Republican Senate candidates stand on this bill? We have some ideas…

Congressmen David Jolly and Ron DeSantis have both voted to defund Planned Parenthood in the House of Representatives eight times, so we’re sure they’d support another opportunity to block funding for critical health services.

Lieutenant Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera and multimillionaire insider Carlos Beruff both have close ties to the Governor and are battling it out for Governor Scott’s endorsement, but they haven’t said where they stand on this legislation. Lopez-Cantera and Beruff need to answer whether they support this effort to decrease women’s access to basic preventive health care.

“The bill headed towards Governor Scott’s desk would hurt thousands of Floridians who rely on clinics like Planned Parenthood for essential health services,” said Lauren Passalacqua, DSCC National Press Secretary. “The Florida Senate candidates need to say where they stand on this bill that is bad for women and families.”
