GOP SHUTDOWN WATCH: Ron Johnson Open To Government Shutdown Over Planned Parenthood Funding

Ron Johnson has already voted multiple times to defund Planned Parenthood and deprive millions of women the access they need to lifesaving cancer screenings and preventive care, and repeatedly voted for the irresponsible 2013 government shutdown. That’s why we it wasn’t surprising to hear Johnson leave the door open to shutting down the government over Planned Parenthood.

WATCH Johnson refuse to say that he would oppose a shutdown aimed at defunding Planned Parenthood, suggesting we need to draw a “bright red line” on funding:

Now with these shocking videos I think America is finally coming to grips with there’s taxpayer dollars flowing to those organizations and where is that money actually going? So, let’s have a bright red line and let’s just fund those organizations that had nothing to do with abortion. So no American, no one has to worry that their tax payer dollars going to fund what they find morally objectionable. That’s a really reasonable position.

“Ron Johnson repeatedly supported the 2013 government shutdown and voted to defund Planned Parenthood so it’s no surprise that he’s leaving the door open to another shutdown simply so he can attack women’s health,” said Sadie Weiner, DSCC National Press Secretary. “Ron Johnson’s ‘bright red line when it comes to defunding Planned Parenthood is bad for Wisconsin women and a government shutdown would have terrible consequences for his constituents.”
