ICYMI: Grassley Doubles Down on Support for Trump SCOTUS Nomination

Despite a new poll showing that voters nationally overwhelmingly don’t trust Donald Trump to nominate a justice to the Supreme Court, Chuck Grassley, the architect of the Republicans’ Supreme Court obstructionism, doubled down on his faith in Donald Trump.

Less than a week after claiming that Trump would nominate the “right type” of people to the court, Grassley reiterated his support for a Trump Supreme Court nominee:

“There’s no problem with Trump appointing people to the Supreme Court,” said Grassley, who pointed to Trump’s February GOP presidential debate promise that he’d nominate conservative judges and specifically his mention of   William Pryor.

“What rock has Chuck Grassley been living under? After 40 years in Washington, either he no longer believes he’s obligated to do his job and listen to the concerns of Iowans, or he actually believes that Donald Trump is qualified to nominate someone to the Supreme Court,” said DSCC spokesperson Sam Lau. “At this point in time, it’s hard to tell which one is worse.”

Grassley’s blind support for Donald Trump comes as a new poll yesterday from the Center for American Progress found his approval ratings dropping to 44%, a far cry from his usual numbers, and that 54% of Iowans oppose the way Republicans are handing the Supreme Court vacancy.
