In a message that was greeted “warmly” on Capitol Hill, the Donald Trump camp let vulnerable GOP Senators know they had no problem if they distanced themselves from their party’s presidential nominee.
Here’s the problem facing Kelly “support but not endorse” Ayotte: there’s very little distance between her policies and those of Donald Trump.
From opposing an increase to the federal minimum wage to supporting the defunding of Planned Parenthood, the shared Ayotte/Trump agenda would be awful for New Hampshire’s working families.
Not that it should be surprising. As Senate Whip John Cornyn shared, “People are going to do what they view as maximizing their chances of success.” That means accepting fundraising dollars raised by Donald Trump, which is much needed for the many GOP candidates facing uphill reelection climbs. And for Kelly Ayotte, who “has one priority, and that’s campaigning for myself,” that also means standing with Trump until it becomes politically inconvenient, no matter how divisive or hateful he remains.
See Kelly Ayotte’s “Trump Card” below to see how little distance there truly is between her and Trump.
