Kelly Ayotte remains one of the most vulnerable GOP senators up for reelection this cycle, and as national Republicans grow increasingly worried about her slim reelection chances, outside spending on her behalf in New Hampshire has skyrocketed to more than a whopping $3 million. Of that $3 million plus, more than a million of it was spent by the Kochs’ Americans for Prosperity.
But beyond the unprecedented amount of shadowy, outside money being spent on her behalf, the Connecticut Mirror reports that David Koch himself will be hosting a fundraiser to benefit Ayotte, Roy Blunt, Jerry Moran and August Wolf. The $10,000 per plate fundraiser was held at the Metropolitan Club in New York City.
“Kelly Ayotte has already voted in lock step with the Koch Brothers and their shadowy outside group has spent big to thank Ayotte for her loyal support, but now she’s dropping any pretense by dashing off to attend a fundraiser hosted by David Koch himself,” said Sadie Weiner, DSCC Communications Director. “Kelly Ayotte knows she will need the support of her special interest constituents as she fights to save her political life, but no amount of money from David Koch or his shadowy group can erase her record of voting against New Hampshire’s best interests.”
