As Kelly Ayotte files for re-election today, she faces an uphill climb as voters across the political spectrum are frustrated with her record of putting corporate special interests before New Hampshire.
One Granite Stater put it bluntly: “She’s been drinking the Kool-Aid and she’s been liking drinking the Kool-Aid in Washington. And that’s a problem.” And no, it wasn’t Governor Maggie Hassan who said that — it was a conservative representative of her own party.
“Kelly Ayotte has become so indebted to the Washington GOP leadership and corporate interests behind her campaign that not even New Hampshire Republicans trust her anymore to represent the interests of Granite Staters,” said DSCC spokesperson Sam Lau. “In a surprisingly honest admission recently, Ayotte said that her her top priority is campaigning for herself — and it shows. Ayotte has her work cut out for her trying to defend her support of Donald Trump, and her votes to turn Medicare into a voucher program and slash funding for women’s health. Kelly Ayotte may be running for re-election, but she can’t run from her out-of-touch record that leaves New Hampshire students, seniors and families behind.”
Given the bipartisan distrust of Kelly Ayotte, it’s no surprise that she is joined in filing for election today by a Republican primary opponent who believes she has become a member of the “corrupt establishment.”
