Senator Mark Kirk generated a lot of headlines for agreeing to meet with Judge Garland today, but Kirk admitted that he hasn’t done anything to push his colleagues or Mitch McConnell to move on the nomination. Alex Moe of NBC News tweets:
Without pressing his colleagues or McConnell to reverse course, Kirk’s meeting with Garland is nothing more than a photo op in the face of a tough re-election campaign.
“If Mark Kirk were serious about moving forward on the constitutional process, he’d be pressuring his Republican colleagues and Republican Leader Mitch McConnell to hold a hearing and vote on Judge Garland,” said Lauren Passalacqua, DSCC National Press Secretary. “Right now, Mark Kirk is doing the bare minimum a Senator should be doing, and unless he works in earnest to get a hearing and a vote, this is just political posturing from a very endangered incumbent.”
