The DSCC released a new digital video today holding conspiracy theorist Senator Ron Johnson accountable for his wildly inaccurate and disqualifying claims in a recent conservative talk radio interview that the January 6th violent mob attack, which left multiple people dead including a U.S. Capitol Police officer, “didn’t seem like an armed insurrection.” Johnson is the most vulnerable Republican incumbent facing re-election next year.
Senator Johnson faced swift backlash this week for engaging in “ridiculous revisionist history,” with PolitiFact rating his claim “Pants on Fire.” Numerous news outlets joined in debunking Johnson’s claims, noting that “in court filings, law enforcement officials said they found some insurrectionists with guns and bombs either on their person, left outside or in their vehicles.” CNN predicted that Johnson’s “wildly irresponsible comments” are likely to be a liability with swing voters. Just yesterday, The Cap Times published a scathing editorial on Johnson for continuing “to peddle conspiracy theories” about the election as he earns his spot at “the top of the list” of senators who “can and should be defeated” in 2022.
“Ron Johnson is the most unpopular Senate Republican up for re-election, and his continued embrace of false conspiracies is a clear reminder that he’s proven himself unfit for public office,” said DSCC spokesperson Shea Necheles. “Wisconsin deserves a Senator who stands up for truth and accountability, but Ron Johnson spends his time spreading repugnant misinformation and doubling down for his own self-serving political gain.”
