NEW POLLING: GOP Opposition to Border Security Bill Deeply Unpopular with Senate Battleground Voters

Today, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) is releasing new polling of Senate battleground voters in 9 states that finds overwhelming support for the border security legislation being voted on today, and that voters are less likely to support a Senate candidate who opposes the border security bill.

Key findings from the poll conducted by Public Policy Polling (PPP) include:

  • An overwhelming majority (80%) of voters from Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin support a bipartisan proposal in Congress to secure the border.
  • This is consistent across party lines – a large majority of Democrats (74%), Republicans (83%), and independents (82%) would support this proposal.
  • 53% of voters (including 51% of Republicans and 58% of independents) would be less likely to support a candidate for U.S. Senate who opposed a bipartisan border security proposal that would crack down on fentanyl trafficking from China and Mexico.
  • 54% of voters (including 57% of Republicans and 53% of independents) would be less likely to support a candidate for U.S. Senate who opposed a bipartisan border security proposal that was supported by border patrol agents.
